star bags
A star bag is a handbag cut in the outline of a five-point star instead of a rectangle, a bucket or a baguette. It is the clearest example of a shaped bag — the silhouette is the whole design, so there is no hardware, no flap and no logo doing the work. Ours is a flat, unstructured star measuring 55 × 50 cm point to point, with a shoulder-drop handle cut straight into the top edge so the star hangs square against you rather than swinging from a strap.
How a star shaped bag is worn
The handle is a cut-out, not an attached strap, which means the bag sits high and close — the top two points frame your shoulder and the lower three fall against your hip. That is why it reads as deliberate rather than costume: it holds a fixed position instead of spinning as you walk. Three ways it tends to be worn:
- Flat against the body. Over one shoulder with the star facing outward — the shape does everything, so the rest of the outfit can stay plain.
- In the hand. Held by the aperture like a folio, the points fanning downward.
- As the only colour. Both shades are saturated enough to carry an all-black or all-denim outfit on their own.
What actually fits inside
More than the outline suggests. The usable volume is the central pentagon plus the two lower points — together they take a 13-inch laptop, an A4 folder, a water bottle and a paperback. The upper points stay flat by design, so tall items sit in the middle rather than in the arms of the star. It is a genuine tote, not a novelty clutch.
Leather or suede?
The two colourways are the same pattern in different hides, and they behave quite differently:
- Acid yellow, smooth leather. Wipes clean, holds a crisp point, and takes daily use — the more practical of the two.
- Cobalt, suede. The nap catches light differently across each face, so the blue shifts as you move. The more striking one, but suede water-stains: give it a protector spray before first use.
Both are lined in black and edge-stitched around every point. Store either one flat so the points keep their shape.
