The One Bright Thing: Neon Orange in Winter

Most winter wardrobes are quiet. One bright thing goes a long way.

Most winter wardrobes are quiet. Navy, grey, black, camel. That is fine. It just means one bright thing goes a long way.

The Neon Orange East West is a glossy TPU shoulder bag, 35 × 19 × 15 centimetres. The orange is vivid and translucent, like light through a sweet wrapper. On a grey street it looks almost lit.

It is not a subtle bag. It isn't meant to be. It is the bag you carry on a day when the sky is the colour of concrete and you need something to look at.

With navy. Orange and navy are opposites on the colour wheel. Together they look clean and confident.

With grey. The orange looks brighter still. Grey becomes the background it needs.

With camel. Warmer, softer. The orange reads more like amber.

With black. Graphic and sharp. The bag becomes the whole outfit.

One rule: one bright thing, and only one. No orange scarf, no orange shoes. Let the bag carry it.

Translucent colours change with what's inside. A white pouch makes the orange glow. A black one makes it deeper and moodier. A grey one keeps it somewhere in between.

The shape matters. A long, low bag sits flat under the arm and stays out of the way. It doesn't bump. It holds a phone, wallet, keys, gloves and a book.

TPU is wipe-clean and water-resistant. Rain runs off, and a soft damp cloth with mild soap handles marks. Avoid solvents and radiators. Translucent colours can fade in strong sun over time, so keep it out of the window when you're not using it.

It also makes a bag easy to find in a crowded cloakroom.

Winter doesn't have to be grey. It just has to be mostly grey, with one bright thing in it.
