Summer outfits, Australia: seven trends for 2026–27
What Australian Fashion Week and the fashion press say this summer looks like, an outfit for each trend, and the bag that finishes it.
The northern summer of 2026 was, by the fashion press's own account, a jelly summer: jelly shoes, jelly totes, even jelly nails. Australia gets its turn from December, with its own trend list. Australian Fashion Week showed Resort 27, the collections for this summer, in May, and RUSSH, Who What Wear and Broadsheet reported on Australian summer dressing through 2026. Here are the seven trends that come up again and again, how to wear each one in a 30-degree week, and the jelly bag colour that suits it.
1. The jelly summer
Coveteur called it the summer of jelly in July: jelly back on shoes, bags, jewellery and even nails, driven, it said, by nostalgia and wanting fashion to be fun again. ABC News singled out the jelly tote. Australian stylists in Broadsheet put jelly thongs with a kitten heel on their 2026 list. The outfit is simple: a white tank, a long denim skirt or linen shorts, flat sandals, and one jelly piece doing the talking. Ours is the 35cm tote, in see-through TPU or glossy PVC; the background to the revival is in the jelly bag trend.
2. Butter yellow, worn as a neutral
RUSSH put butter yellow at the top of its 2026 summer list, and the trick is to treat it like beige rather than like a colour: a butter knit or slip dress with white, cream and denim, nothing louder nearby. The bag can be the yellow instead of the dress. Our yellow East West is a pale, buttery yellow in PVC, and the yellow 35cm tote is the same soft, warm shade in the larger shape.
3. Berry reds and ballet pink
The Resort 27 shows leaned on berry: wine, cherry, raspberry and purple, softened with coral, pale pink and ballet pink. Wear one berry piece against white linen, or go head to toe in a single shade for evening. The jelly version: a magenta 35cm tote (a saturated pink-purple PVC), the translucent purple in TPU, or light pink, which the catalogue describes as a pale, ballet pink. Berry is also the easiest way into a Christmas outfit that isn't red and green; see Christmas outfits for an Australian summer.
4. High shine, and sheer
Two of the Resort 27 trends pull the same way: high shine (liquid sequins, iridescent fabrics, jewel tones including ice blue) and ethereal sheers, from organza layers to a slip worn under a blazer. RUSSH's advice on sequins holds in the heat: pair them with plain basics, a white tank and relaxed denim, so the shine looks worn rather than dressed up. A see-through bag belongs here. The crystal 35cm tote is the most see-through bag we make, so what you carry becomes part of the look; the ice East West is frosted with a soft blue tint, the jelly answer to ice blue.
5. Surfer ease
Style Arcade's name for it was "surfer perfect": wrap silhouettes, sarong-style scarves, crochet sets, raffia hems, western shirts and denim, with sunset prints and flip-flops. It is the most Australian trend on the list, and it wants a bag that can go on the sand. Match the water or the sunset: a turquoise East West is pool-water blue-green, Capri is a bright Mediterranean blue in the 35cm tote and a pale, watery aqua in the East West, and the neon orange East West in TPU is translucent enough to glow. The beach case for a jelly bag is on beach bags in Australia.
6. Stripes
Who What Wear's Australian round-up singled out striped knitwear, worn two ways: knitted striped shorts with a plain tee, or a striped dress with flat sandals. Stripes are busy, so the bag should be one colour. Pick a shade from the stripe (a navy 35cm tote with navy-and-white) or one bright that isn't in it, such as orange with blue stripes.
7. '90s shapes and quiet neutrals
The same round-up tracked '90s shapes (capris, Bermuda shorts, knee-length skirts, three-quarter sleeves), lace trims, and a turn to softer neutrals down to chocolate. RUSSH added the camisole, layered under an oversized blazer or worn with slouchy denim. Put them together: capris, a lace-trimmed cami and flat sandals. We don't make a brown bag; the neutrals that sit with chocolate are the nude 35cm tote (a soft beige in opaque TPU), the nude East West, olive and smoke grey. Our own sales back the neutrals up: in the jelly bag colour report, 52% of buyers chose quiet neutrals.
Dressing for the actual weather
Tourism Australia gives Sydney's summer average as 18.6–25.8 °C, with humidity up to 65% and rain building from 74 mm in December to 113 mm in February, and its advice is SPF30+ sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. In practice that means fabrics that breathe (linen, cotton, crochet), a layer for the change at four, and a bag that doesn't mind a storm, sunscreen or wet togs. TPU and PVC are water-resistant and wipe clean; store either out of direct sun between beach days, and jelly bags in hot weather covers the heat.
The two bags, in A$
The 35cm tote (35 × 25 × 14 cm) carries a full beach day and is A$150 in TPU or A$95 in PVC. The East West (35 × 19 × 15 cm) is the slimmer shoulder bag, A$120 in TPU or A$75 in PVC. Those are our Australian prices; every colour in stock is on beach bags in Australia. Australian orders ship free from our stock in Sydney by Australia Post, dispatched the next business day, and take 1–3 business days door to door, with nothing to pay on delivery.
Questions
What are the summer fashion trends in Australia for 2026–27?
Australian Fashion Week's Resort 27 shows, this summer's season, were led by berry reds and ballet pink, high shine (liquid sequins and iridescent fabrics), sheer layers, utility pieces and an easy surf look of wraps, crochet, denim and sunset prints. The fashion press reported butter yellow worn as a neutral, sequins with plain basics, stripes, capris and Bermuda shorts, lace trims, and quiet neutrals down to chocolate. And across 2026's reporting: jelly, in shoes and in totes.
Are jelly bags in style for summer 2026–27?
Yes. Through 2026 the fashion press reported jelly coming back across shoes, totes, jewellery and nails, and Australian stylists picked jelly thongs among the year's trends. The jelly tote, in particular, was called out as a 2026 trend. The reasons given are nostalgia and wanting fashion to be fun again.
What bag goes with a summer outfit?
One that can take the summer itself: sun, sunscreen, wet togs and a storm on the walk home. A jelly bag is water-resistant and wipes clean, so it suits beach days and dinners alike. For colour, match the bag to the outfit's palette: butter yellow or ballet pink with soft neutrals, a berry shade to lift white linen, ice or crystal with shine, turquoise or orange with the surf look.
How quickly does a jelly bag arrive in Australia?
Australian orders ship free from our stock in Sydney by Australia Post, dispatched the next business day, and take 1–3 business days door to door, with nothing to pay on delivery.
